Direct School Admission – Sec (DSA-Sec) for 2023

We invite all interested 2022 Primary 6 students to apply for Beatty Secondary School via the DSA-Sec Exercise.

Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, while keeping in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes that are available to develop their potential and talents.

Students who are successfully admitted to the school via DSA are expected to honour their commitment to the school and participate in the activities related to the talent area they are selected for from Year 1 – 4.

The talent areas and their respective criteria are listed in the table below.

Sports & Games Canoeing

1. Physical Proficiency Aptitude Test

Applicants will be assessed on the following aspects:

  1. No. of sit-ups in 1 minute;
  2. No. of push-ups in 1 minute; and
  3. Timing based on 4 x 10m shuttle run.


2. Kayaking Aptitude Test

Volleyball

1. Physical Proficiency Aptitude Test

Applicants will be assessed on the following aspects:

  1. Timing based on 4 x 10m shuttle run;
  2. Ability to serve; and
  3. Agility.

2. Volleyball Skills Assessment

Applicants will be assessed on the following aspects:

  1. Ball handling skills;
  2. Game awareness; and
  3. Teamwork.

Wushu

Applicants will need to perform one of the following routines:

  1. Quan-Shu;
  2. Short weapon; and
  3. Long weapon.

Applicants need only prepare for just one of the aforementioned routines. If a weapon-based routine is demonstrated, applicants will be required to bring their own weapon. Applicants will be assessed on the following aspects:

  1. Flexibility;
  2. Strength; and
  3. Execution.
Performing Arts

Chinese Orchestra

  1. Solo Performance Assessment 

Applicants are to prepare and perform one song of your choice (2 to 4 minutes long).

Applicants are required to use their own musical instruments, music scores and any other equipment that might be required to demonstrate their skills. 

Concert Band

  1. Music Scales Test
    Applicants are required to play Concert Bb, Eb and/or F scale by memory.
  2. Solo Performance Assessment

Applicants are to perform two contrasting pieces of your choice (minimally 24 bars)

Applicants are required to find their own musical instruments, music scores and any other equipment needed to demonstrate their skills. 

Malay Dance

Applicants will be assessed based on:

  1. 1-minute individual Malay dance performance of your choice.
    Please ensure that you have the music accompaniment for your dance performance
  2. Dance Skills Assessment

Applicants will be assessed on these aspects:

  1. Dance skills;
  2. Ability to pick up dance routine; and
  3. Elegance.

Modern Dance

Applicants will be assessed based on:

  1. 1-minute individual dance performance of your choice.
    Please ensure that you have the music accompaniment for your dance performance
  2. Dance Skills Assessment

Applicants will be assessed on these aspects:

  1. Dance skills;
  2. Agility; and
  3. Ability to pick up dance routine.
Applied Learning Programme

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

 

Applicants will be assessed based on:

  1. Interest, knowledge and skills in coding; and
  2. Attitude and problem-solving skills through a short performance task.
Learning for Life Programme

Student Leadership

Applicants will be assessed based on their confidence and clarity in oral presentation, contribution and service involvement in external community projects, and involvement in school events as a student leader, e.g. Student Ambassador, presenter, reporter, emcee.


Low Cheng Lum Scholarship

Students with Achievement Level (AL) 13 or better will be awarded the Low Cheng Lum Scholarship, worth a total value of S$2500, based on the following terms and conditions:

  • Cash Award of $1000 in Secondary 1, for students with AL 13 or better; and
  • Cash Award of $500 in Secondary 2-4, subject to good performance and conduct in the preceding year. 

Application (5 May 2022, 11am to 1 June 2022, 3pm)

All applicants can apply for DSA-SEC through the centralized DSA-Sec Portal.

    1. For applicants studying in MOE mainstream primary schools: Parent may log in directly to DSA-Sec Portal. Only one parent’s Singpass is required. Parents/guardians who are unable to apply online can approach their child’s primary school for assistance.
    2. For applicants NOT studying in MOE mainstream primary schools: They need to apply for a Registration Number (RGxxxxxxx) to access the DSA-Sec Portal. For more details, please refer to MOE website at: https://go.gov.sg/nmsdsa-sec-application .
    3. Students can indicate up to three choices (maximum of two choices for the same school under two different talent areas).
    4. Applicants studying in mainstream primary schools will have their primary school information shared directly with DSA-Sec schools that they apply to. It is optional to indicate non-school-based activities and achievements.
    5. Given the prevailing national posture, DSA-Sec schools will be conducting in-person selection, with the prevailing Safe Management Measures (SMMs) in place to ensure the safety of students and staff. Selection trials and interviews will be conducted for shortlisted applicants between 27 June and 12 September 2022.  More details will be furnished nearer the dates.

27 Jun – 12 Sep 2022 In-person interview for shortlisted applicants. Shortlisted applicants will be notified via phone and/or email on the date and time for the interview and trial (if applicable).
By 12 Sep 2022 All applicants will be informed of the results of their application via mail (Confirmed Offer/ Wait List / Unsuccessful)
By 4 Nov 2022 Submission of School Preference Form through DSA-Sec Portal
Late Nov 2022 Allocation Results Release
